About the Show
Moka Mocha Ink presents a triptych of new short films by Ridhwan Saidi about discourse, desire, and duty. In Tentang Cinta, two urban lovers discuss about relationship on their way to a free range farm. In Cahaya Pusara, Lara visits her long lost relative to confront her nostalgia. In Penyiasat Malam, a debt collector discovers a murder victim in his client’s home, that brings him face to face with a beastly figure.

Tentang Cinta (About Love)
Tentang Cinta is about two lovers reassessing their relationship by asking what is love. As they walk from a public space to a more private open-range farm, their discussion becomes more intimate. They talk about the idea behind honeymooning, trust and nostalgia. Performed by Hannan Barakbah and Roshafiq Roslee.
Cahaya Pusara (Wandering Spirit)
Lara and Bayu take a journey to a forest where the spirit of Suri is residing. Lara who misses Suri so dearly, have to confront her internal struggle of longing and come to a realisation that she has a life ahead of her. Hope is sought in this surreal film of loneliness and death. Performed by Lew Shu Ni, Sadiq M. Jamil, and Hazel Khairuddin.
Penyiasat Malam (Midnight Detective)
Ridhwan Saidi plays the titular role in Penyiasat Malam. A debt collector is investigating a murder case involving his borrower. The savage nature of man and the meaning of responsibility are explored in this short film.
About Ridhwan Saidi
Ridhwan Saidi is a Malaysian novelist, playwright and filmmaker. He co-founded indie publishing house, Moka Mocha Ink which focuses on contemporary Malay fiction and drama. His novels are Cekik (2011), an oedipal journey of a young Malay boy named Syed Warith; Amerika (2011), a psychedelic tour of Kuala Lumpur; Mautopia (2012), a distopian adventure in an island ruled by life size ants disguised as domestic guardian; Stereo Genmai (2012), a writer’s quest in search of his lost character; Babyrina (2014), a murder mystery linking Malaysian urban myth/real life pornstar; and Brazil (2015) semi-diary/reportage of Rio de Janeiro during FIFA World Cup 2014. He translated David Cronenberg’s novel Consumed (2014) into Malay. Teater Modular is his series of short plays consisting 13 offbeat playlets, whilst Teater Normcore is his series of full length plays, both with the intent to illuminate poetry and heightened appreciation towards deadpan humour. His works deal mainly with dreams, memory and mystery. Ensembel Teater Kaos Nol is an open collective established by Ridhwan for performance-making, book reading and discussion, art and theatre related activity based in Kuala Lumpur. He is the co-ordinator of Wayang Budiman, a film screening club based in Shah Alam. In 2019, he co-curated Pesta Playlet, an artist-run non-profit common ground for performance-based initiative through community building, research, workshop, discourse and publications. No Love For The Young (2020) is his first feature film which had its world premiere at Singapore International Film Festival.

Production
Moka Mocha Ink (est. 2011) is an independent publishing house that focuses on contemporary Malay fiction and drama. In 2017 the company ventures into theatremaking and has presented offbeat shows in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Penang. In late 2020 Moka Mocha Ink in collaboration with Binfilem, produced its first feature film titled Tiada Cinta Selama Muda. The film was collectively devised and performed by Ensembel Teater Kaos Nol. It had its world premiere at the 31st Singapore International Film Festival and competed in the Asian Feature Competition.
