JOM TARI Traversing Space, Virtual Dance Performance, In Celebration of International Dance Day 2021

International Dance Day, which falls on 29th April every year, celebrates dance as an art form that brings people together across cultural divides. Our Dance Department recognizes the significance of this celebration and has organized performances since 2019 in efforts to advocate DANCE.

We produced site-specific pieces in 2019 to create awareness about our existence and to promote diversity in dances on the campus. Last year, despite of the Movement Control Order (MCO) that was enforced due to rising Covid-19 cases, we celebrated dance by producing a video with the theme "Dancing amidst Covid-19" in which we featured “dancing from home”.

Following the success of the virtual performance, we decided to come up with another virtual live performance this year, but this time, we aimed to produce an international collaborative event by inviting choreographers from Malaysia and abroad, namely the U.S.A, United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, and Hong Kong. This year’s production will feature 16 pieces that cover various dance genres - classical, traditional, and contemporary. We are extremely delighted to present to you these diverse works.
