The Ice Kacang Project

The Ice Kacang Project is Malaysia’s 1st live theatre performance post-MCO. The show is put together to celebrate the reopening of penangpac after its doors were shut for over three months due to the Covid-19 crisis and the ensuing Movement Control Order (MCO).

The Ice Kacang Project features six short comedies written by John Newman, Terence Toh, Yusuf Zalfakhar; and Fa Abdul, who also serves as director.

The show is special because it has been tweaked to conform to the standard operating procedures (SOP) announced by the authorities in order to show how flexible theatre can be. So the production will star only two actors, Karam Tabba and Tan Seoh Chen, who will be portraying a dozen characters on stage.

The Ice Kacang Project was conceived during the MCO phase, with rehearsals conducted via Zoom throughout the eight weeks of stay-at-home order, with only three face-to-face rehearsals completed prior to the final staging.

The six short comedies are:

1. The Root of All Problem
   A man with a broken heart. A monk with interesting mathematical equations. Watch how the monk heals a broken heart using nothing but an abacus board.

2. The Grass is Greener
   An expat who is absolutely in love with Penang meets an old friend, a Malaysian, who happens to be totally in love with her new Sydney home. What happens when a non-Malaysian behaves more Malaysian than his Malaysian-born friend?

3. You Scratch My Back
   Brothers are usually annoying, but when little sisters get themselves tangled in romance way too early in their teenage years, it is the annoying brothers who come to the rescue.

4. Men Are Pigs
   It’s an easy rule – never call a guy who is not into you. Unfortunately, it is also the one rule women can’t seem to follow. Why?

5. Chaos
   What will the world be if everyone stops following rules?

6. Small Talk Really Stinks
   Nothing can bring two people with different personalities together, except for their love for durian!

關於演出

《戀戀紅豆冰》是馬來西亞自行動管制令以來劇場重新開放後的第一個現場演出。這個演出標誌著檳城表演藝術中心在行管令關閉了三個多月之後，重新開放服務大眾．

《戀戀紅豆冰》共收集了六部由約翰・紐曼 (John Newman)、Terence Toh、尤索夫・查法卡(Yusuf Zalfakhar) 與法阿都 (Fa Abdul) 創作的短篇喜劇，並由法阿都執導。

這場演出特別因應疫情標準作業程序而製作，向大眾展示劇場如何運用其可塑性在疫情期間殺出一條血路。這個演出由兩位實力派演員卡蘭·達巴 (Karam Tabba) 與陳曉珍 (Tan Seoh Chen) 挑起大樑，扮演六個短劇中共十二個不同的角色

《戀戀紅豆冰》演員在行管令期間，透過 ZOOM 在各自家中排練了將近八個星期，僅在進館期間才有機會在舞台上一起排練走位

六個短劇包括：

1. 所有問題的根源
   一個傷心的男人，一個喜愛數學的和尚，且看和尚如何撥弄算盤來治癒受傷的心。

2. 別處草更綠
   一位旅居檳城的英國僑民遇到一位返鄉探親旅居澳洲的馬來西亞人，為何他會比那馬來西亞人更像馬來西亞人？

3. 抓抓我的背
   哥哥通常很煩人，但是當小妹過早陷入愛情的漩渦，且看煩人的哥哥將如何拉她一把。

4. 男人是豬
   規則之一–不要打電話央求不喜歡妳的男人。不幸的事，這也是姐妹們都很難遵守的規則之一。為何如此？

5. 混亂
   當大家都不遵守規則時會發生甚麼事？

6. 閒聊超有毒
   沒有甚麼可以讓兩個不同性格的人在一起，除了他們同時中了愛情與榴槤的毒！
